The Necessity of Forgiveness
Peter asked Jesus, "How many times shall I forgive my brother? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "Not seven times, but seventy-seven times."
In this parable, a king forgives a servant a debt of 10,000 talents (an impossible sum to repay). That same servant then finds a fellow servant who owes him 100 denarii (a small amount) and chokes him, demanding payment.
Key Lesson: We have been forgiven an unpayable debt of sin by God. Therefore, we have no right to withhold forgiveness from others.
