Compassion Over Tradition
This parable was told to answer the lawyer's question, "Who is my neighbor?"
The Priest and the Levite, who knew the law of God, avoided the injured man to remain ritually clean or out of fear. But the Samaritan, a social outcast hated by the Jews, stopped to help. He bandaged his wounds, took him to an inn, and paid for his care.
Jesus redefines "neighbor" not as someone who lives nearby or shares your religion, but as anyone in need of mercy.
Key Lesson: Love your neighbor as yourself. True faith is shown through compassionate action, breaking barriers of race, religion, and social status.
