"Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps." (Matthew 25:3-4)
Spiritual Readiness
This parable stresses the importance of constant readiness for Christ's return. All ten virgins had lamps (outward appearance of faith) and all ten slept (physical death or daily life). The difference was the oil.
What is the Oil? Often interpreted as the Holy Spirit, genuine personal relationship with God, or spiritual maturity. It is something that cannot be shared or borrowed at the last minute.
When the bridegroom (Jesus) arrived at midnight, it was too late to get prepared. The door was shut.
Key Lesson: Spiritual preparation is a personal responsibility. We cannot rely on the faith of our parents or pastors. We must watch and be ready, living filled with the Spirit today.
