The Householder

Matthew 13:52
The Householder - Matthew 13:52 | Bible Hunger

"He said to them, โ€œTherefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.โ€" (Matthew 13:52)

Old and New

Jesus concludes His parables by describing the ideal teacher. The "old" treasures are the truths of the Old Testament/Law. The "new" treasures are the revelations of Jesus and the Gospel.

A true disciple doesn't discard the old for the new, nor reject the new for the old. He understands how Christ (the New) fulfills the Law (the Old).

Key Lesson: We must value both the deep roots of Scripture (Old Testament) and the fresh revelation of Christ (New Testament) to have a complete faith.
